Silent Hill (2006)

Survival-horror games always recall the thoughts of two great series, "Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Both have for some time and his fearsome players in their own special way. Of the two Silent Hill has always been the more psychologically terrifying franchise and very little has changed at that point – a few other factors may have changed, but the panic is still.

Silent Hill Homecoming is the fifth in the series, following the room. The premise of the game is the player the role of a former resident of a neighboring city to the Silent Hill returning home from military service only to find his missing father and younger brother Joshua, along with many of the townspeople.

The mayor spends all his time digging up the cemetery and look at the widespread fog shrouds Silent Hill has plunged his hometown. All the nasties seem to have their way as well and the story eventually takes players deep into Silent Hill.

Story aside for a moment, there are some important changes to the game. Silent Hill has always dominated on the console platform and the course title was coded for the console. The look of the whole affair is not as defined as a standard PC title, a feature that can be forgiven because they make these in other ways. The film-grain effect of the cut scenes and actual gameplay are very effective when taken together with the atmospheric sound effects and music score. Total end product is a dark and scary thing that consumes the attention of a player and put it in the game world as only Silent Hill can. The auditory signals and effects are what make Homecoming as scary as it is.

Wandering around a deserted hospital in the initial nightmare sequence is a good indicator of the uncanny to come, with the sound of glass cracking feet and scattered debris is kicked around by players inspirational small heart attack. Changes in music and audio signals are observed at an almost subconscious level resulting in a few cheap bang courtesy of the developers.

Another factor is improved, the hat used by the game physics. There are many more moving, albeit useless, objects in the stands that can be tipped over and cans and other items that can be moved by the player. This reinforces terror in a tense situation if players bump into the wrong item.

Monitoring the PC is very decent for what is essentially a port. The keys can not be extended remapped as we would like, but unlike Silent Hill 4, Homecoming is very playable with mouse and keyboard configuration. The camera method has also changed from the static camera used for the series through to a more free-form one.

Some areas will remain restricted view from certain positions to some extent, but the overall change can be seen as negative because they did not know or to see what gets behind one was a major scare factor of the previous games.

Speaking of shocked, Silent Hill Homecoming is doing its best players at their underwear fudge at every opportunity. The developers have seen fit to make games incredibly creepy with the flashlight, and even worse if it is enabled. Some creatures are attracted by the light, sometimes forcing players to stumble into the darkness. As freaky as this experience is still preferable to be driven simultaneously by four nurses.

The last element that has undergone changes, is that of fighting. A Dodge is now available for players, helping the players out what, but it is not easy to fight. Fighting is relatively simple, with two mouse buttons are quick and strong attacks can be charged. It also serves as a performance of sorts, players lucky enough to have an enemy knock down.

Most of what is above is positive, even though changes from the norm. Silent Hill The gameplay is still by and by. There seems a more Western influence at stake this time, but it does not change the psychological scare factor in any way.

The Steam that is required for installation is a bit disturbing, but there are more and Additional games are planned for Steam releases.

The storyline is great, the gameplay is streamlined and the look and feel is at once both familiar and different. It can not be to as much as the PC scratching, but this can be forgiven for the experience it gives to the player. This is the kind of game you play uncomfortable night with the lights , and that's exactly what we want.
