Full Metal Jacket (1987)

Director Stanley Kubrick. Love, hate or never heard of him – your favorite Kubrick film?

I've seen 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) – A far my fav Clockwork Orange (1971) – disturbing. I've also read the book. Full Metal Jacket (1987) and plan to see more. His films are strange at first, but probably the most carefully crafted mainstream productions I have ever seen. What is your favorite and what I see next? Or do you hate things? Or never heard of him?

I like the three you have mentioned, but I think Barry Lyndon is a beautiful film. Beutifully shot, and the period details in the costumes is just breathtaking. Kubrick films even whole series with only candlelight indoors (as would have been the case at the time of the film is set), he searched for months for a camera can capture images in low light such finding. If you have not seen, I thoroughly recommend. I also think Dr. Strangelove is a brilliant film, although I must confess that I did not enjoy it the first time I saw it, but now I'm older I understand the satire more. I think AI, although directed by Spielberg, is a very underrated film. Kubrick has almost all the designs and the overall plot of the film, and together with Spielberg for years before he died. Spielberg says the film that many of the scenes criticized for being too sugary actually Kubrick ideas. Whatever you think of the film, it is certainly beautiful to watch.
